~ Rituals of Invocation ~
Invocation is the process of calling
the spirit energy of a deity into your physical self, uniting temporarily the spiritual
and corporeal essence of the universal life force in order to make one whole, complete,
and powerful existence.
There is but one purpose for invoking the spirit
of a diety into yourself, though it can be expressed in many unique ways: Invoke
to allow an entity's energies to merge with your own so that you can temporarily
take on the needed characteristic(s) he/she possesses, combining them with your
own best qualities for the purpose of postive magic, ritual or worship.
Such pratices are well known in Paganism, the most
common two examples being the rituals of Drawing Down the Moon or Drawing Down the
Sun, where a coven will invoke the spirit of the moon Goddess or sun God into the
body of a High Priestess or Priest in order that their presence can be felt and
interacted with on festival occasions.
Invocation is slightly more difficult, and moderately
more siky than evocation, though the risk is still negligible. It is also
more difficult to maintain the energy link once it is made which is why many covens
reserve this task for their leaders, the people who are presumably the most experienced
in occult practices.
